Koala February Newsletter

Another busy and productive month as we started off with looking at Chinese New Year, the Chinese festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. In recognition of it being the Year of the Pig we created our own pigs along with lanterns in symbolism of a bright future.

For Valentine’s Day we discussed who is in our families and the reason why we love them. In celebration we made them thoughtful cards to give to them.

The current topic of interest has been Australia following on from Australia Day and our Book of the Month, “Patterns of Australia”. We have been looking at the beauty our natural environment provides as we learnt about our varied landscapes such as the bush, ocean and reef. We listened to “Advance Australia Fair”, “Give me a home among the gum trees” and learnt a new song called “Barramundi”. We explore native animals and symbols of Australia as well as Australian artists. We now have a deeper understanding that we are so fortunate to call Australia home.

The highlight of the month was the visits from the Reptile Man. We got up close to a snake, lizard, turtle and a blue tongue lizard. It was great to see what they feel like as well as learn what to do if we were to see one in real life.

We are so proud at how well the Koala’s are settling into their new class. They have learnt the new routine, lots of independent skills and are engaging with each other in such caring ways! We are looking forward to what next month brings. Miss Janelle, Miss Jessie and Miss Tertia.
