Koala January Newsletter

Welcome to 2019 and the Koala class! The year began with much excitement becoming familiar with a new room, new routines, class rules and faces. It has been lovely getting to know new friends along with catching up with a few old friends as well.

Our Book of the Month is “The things I love about my friends”, a great opportunity to discuss what it means to be a good friend and identify positive aspects about all our amazing friends at OFELC. A perfect first book of the Month to encourage kindness and sharing for the year ahead.
The collective class interest is currently dinosaurs. We have been looking at how long ago they lived, how they died, what types of food they eat, what different part of their bodies do as well as learning new words and their meanings such as, herbivore, carnivore and paleontologist.

Letterland began this month where we focus on a new letter each week. So far, we have learnt about Annie Apple, Bouncy Ben and Clever Cat. We are discovering what sound each of these characters make, identifying words that begin with that sound and learning to write the letter. We are so clever!

Lastly, we also celebrated Australia Day and what it means to be Australian. We acknowledged the original inhabitant of Australia, the Aboriginal Peoples as well as the arrival of the First Feet. We looked at typical Australian food such as vegemite and pavlova, Australian animals and songs and created our own Australian flag, inspired by both the Aboriginal and Australian flag.

Till next month, Miss Janelle, Miss Jessie, Miss Tertia and Miss Bree.
