What a great start to the year. This month the Lorikeets have been getting to know one another and developing lovely friendships amongst themselves and with their educators.
This month the children have shown an interest in farm animals. To extend on this interest we have set up a learning experience which allows the children to play with our farm animal toys and barns which has created lovely conversations and discussions amongst the children.
During group time, we have been incorporating the farm animal interest with books about animals on the farm, as well as songs such as Old Macdonald, Sleeping Bunnies, Wind the Bobbin Up and Wheels on The Bus.
The Lorikeets have been enjoying all the different craft activities we have been doing such as collages, finger painting and painting with a variety of different brushes and tools focusing on their fine motor, sensory and creativity skills.
Play dough is always a very popular activity, the children manipulate the play dough into food, homes for the animals and use scissors to cut the play dough under supervision to challenge their fine motor skills.
To encourage the children’s and families sense of belonging we have started our Belonging Family Tree which has the children’s hand cut outs along with an image of their family and a little bit about the child and their family.
The children have been going over to the tree and enjoy looking for their family photo and letting their educators and peers know. If you havn’t yet sent in your photo, please email it to Leanne and we can print it out to add to our tree.
This has been such a lovely month to start our year, we are excited for another great month.
